Born June 9, 2005; 7 lb 13 oz; 20 in

Penelope Meredith Orwant, our second child, was born exactly on her due date -- thirteen minutes into June 9, to be precise. Robin was in labor for four hours, of which only about eight minutes were active pushing. Penny arrived without complications; all in all, a very different experience than our first daughter. They even look different:

Hm. I suppose they look pretty similar. Well, let's compare the hospital rooms:

Notice any differences? No, it's not the computer on the right in the 2005 picture. That was there in 2003, just off camera. And the lamp in 2003 was there in 2005, just higher up. Let's zoom in on that back wall. The light, airy, colorful painting of 2003 has been replaced by this:

You can almost hear the interior decorator: "What this room needs is less calming countryside elegance and more HEY WE JUST FORGOT A SPONGE IN SOMEONE'S ABDOMEN AND GOT SUED FOR A HUNDRED GRAND."

Anyway, Penelope, Robin, Amelia, and Jon are all doing fine. More pictures will follow once Penny learns to smile. Cheers!
